In 1984, I started the first of my 8 children in piano lessons. A teacher lived in
the vicinity, so she became our first experience in the music world. Soon I had 4 of
our kids studying music in her home. This teacher suddenly passed away, leaving
several students without an instructor. At the time there were 2 teachers in
Lethbridge that stepped up to the plate and opened their doors to these orphaned
students. This is how we met Mrs. Laing, and she has been a blessing in our life ever since.
She has now taught all 8 of my children, three of whom have worked to the Grade
10 level in the Royal Conservatory of Music. Not only have they received a superior musical education, but they have also had a listening ear – as Mrs. Laing is their ‘friend’. For those of you with teenagers, you realize how valuable this can be.
Mrs. Laing has the ability to be fun with the students, and at the same time bring
the best Out of them. Although it was often a fight to get the children to practice, it
was never hard to get them to attend their lessons. They always loved to go. She
has a warm and loving way with her musical students.
Mrs. Laing goes above and beyond to expose her students to musical experiences.
They are given opportunities in her studio that I have not seen in other studios.
I have always said that Mrs. Laing could charge admission to one of her Student
Recitals, because they are that good. Her students are polished, well prepared, and
have a love of music.
We have felt so fortunate that she has been our music instructor for the past 20 years.
